Nomade Beer, An Up and Coming Player

Nomade Scotch and Blonde Ale

Brewed by Cerveza Artesanal Nomade
Style: Scotch Ale/Golden Ale/Blond Ale
Santiago, Chile

Nomade The up and coming player in the Chilean beer marketA small brewery with a big heart, exploring beer styles that are not necessarily common in South America; a Scotch ale anyone? Nevertheless, the brewery is increasing its popularity amongst the beer drinking public of Chile, and Nomade won gold, silver and bronze in various beer events in the “Beers of America Copa” in 2012.  Make no mistake about it, Nomade is an up and coming player in the Chilean beer market.

Review: Bottle of Nomade Scotch Ale, 6.7%ABV

Nomade Scotch Ale, in a Scottish style, is a very pleasant beer made with a fine selection of traditional and smoked malts.

On pouring, a dark brown color appeared with a good head that stayed well and leaving a good amount of lacing as you would expect from a good ale.

The aroma was a bit fruity and malty.

The taste was a sweet malty flavour with notes of grapes and smoked malts.A small bitter aftertaste that wasn’t overwhelming. It was interesting that it took a short while for the alcohol to kick in, which it did by the end. Found it quite a strong drink to have, and can imagine the fun to be had after a few of these tough boys!

Nomade The up and coming player in the Chilean beer marketReview: Bottle of Nomade Blonde Ale, 4.5%ABV

Next up for the Nomade range was to try one of their very tasty Blonde Ales

On pour there was quite a large head that settled very nicely with a small amount of lacing The colour was of a darkish golden tint.

The aroma was a nice faint sweetly smell of yeast and some fruit, particular orange. Was a light smell but very pleasant on the nose.

The ale had a very balanced taste that included grains, yeast, citrus and fruit flavours. Quite an interesting mix for an ale but it was damn easy to drink and overall a very enjoyable ale experience. Recommended.

Mongozo, The Exotic Beer

Mongozo, The Exotic Beer

Mongozo

http://www.mongozo.com/en

Brewed by Brouwerij Huyghe for the Dutch company Mongozo B.V.
Netherlands
Style: exotic fruit beer
Melle, Belgium

Mongozo is an exotic fruit beer which is a one of a kind. It was the first Fair Trade Lager in the world as all the fruit used in the production of this beer is exclusively sourced from Fair Trade suppliers. There are five exotic flavours available: Mango, Banana, Coconut, Quinua and Palmnut.

Although Mongozois a Dutch company, the beer is actually brewed in the traditional way across the border in the Huyghe Brewery in Melle, Belgium. I wasn’t sure to have it down as a Dutch or Belgian, or even as an African beer, but I went with it as a Dutch beer as Mongozo is a Dutch company, Simples.

The word Mongozo means “cheers” in the language of the Chokwe people of Africa.
The story behind the beer is that Henrique Kabia came to the Netherlands from Angola as a refugee in 1993. He brought with him his grandmother’s beer recipe that was so popular in his home. This recipe served as the basis for the brewing Mongozo Palmnut. In 1998, Henrique Kabia and, his business partner, Jan Fleurkens decided to put the beer on the Dutch market in 1999 launching Mongozo Palmnut.

There are now five exotic flavours available: Mango, Banana, Coconut, Quinua and Palmnut.

Review: Bottle of Mongozo Mango Flavoured Fruit Beer, 3.6%ABV

I tried the mango flavoured Mongozo fruit beer.

“The Exotic Beer” is a lovely sweet drink and a free trade product. So you know by drinking lots of it you are doing your little bit to help people in the less developed world. Building up your karma bank no end.

Mongozo, The Exotic BeerOn pour there is a dark hazy golden colour with a nice enough head and a bit of lacing.

As you would except there is a very strong ripe mango smell throughout which is very refreshing.

The taste is, naturally, of a very sweet fresh mango flavour. It is strong tasting with some lingering malty aftertaste. This is a good beer for the summer time, nice on a hot day.

Heineken

In the Netherlands, Heineken’s active breweries are strategically located in Zoeterwoude, ’s-Hertogenbosch, and Wijlre. The historic original brewery in Amsterdam, which ceased production in 1988 after more than a century of operation, still stands today. It has been beautifully transformed it into the hugely popular Heineken Experience, an immersive museum that now attracts beer enthusiasts from all over the globe.

Review: Can of Heineken pale lager, 5% ABV

Heineken, a good solid beer that’s always crisp and reliably refreshing. This easy-drinking lager is the ideal go-to fare for sporting events, backyard barbecues, or lively parties where you want something cold that never lets you down.

Pour it and you’re greeted by a very clear, bright pale golden colour that catches the light beautifully. It forms a nice average-sized frothy white head on pouring, one that settles gently but leaves steady, attractive lacing clinging to the glass all the way down.

The smell is a distinct, inviting yeast aroma backed by fresh grassy hops and just a touch of pleasant malt sweetness – a classic, clean lager scent that promises refreshment.

Up front, the taste delivers that quite distinctive yeast flavor with a tiny, subtle hint of hops; it’s crisp, smooth, and remarkably balanced, going down easy with no fuss. The finish is clean, dry, and genuinely refreshing, leaving you ready for the next sip without any heavy linger. At 5% ABV, it’s sessionable perfection in a green bottle.

Review: Can of Karlovacko Pivo Beer, 5.2% ABV

Karlovacko Pivo Beer, a Croatian LagerMy first Croatian beer

The aroma was a good grain scent with some malt sweetness, nice.

A nice thick, foamy, white head appeared after the pour, that stuck around.  A bit of lacing noted.

The colour was a bright clear golden straw appearance.  Had a bitter taste, and I felt it was a strong beer. No doubt a few of these under my belt and I would be ready for a good party.

A good clean Pale Lager, with a nice decent aroma.

Brewed by Grupo Modelo
Style: Pale Lager
México DF

A pale lager that has been brewed and bottled in Mexico by Grupo Modelo since 1926. Grupo Modelo is Mexico’s largest brewer and is currently exporting Corona to more than 150 countries worldwide. Corona is one of the top-selling beers worldwide.

Although widely consumed year round, the beer is generally viewed as a summertime beverage. It is a brand that has a laid back image and is strongly associated with fun in the sun. Corona’s smooth taste is perfect for a long hot summers evening.

Outside of Mexico, the beer is commonly served with a wedge of lime or lemon in the neck of the bottle to add flavor.

Review: Bottle of Corona Extra lager, 4.6%ABV

The appearance has a clear pale straw yellow body. After pouring a small white head appears that dissipates very quickly. Not much lacing.

It has a mild, clean, subtle lager aroma, that smells of light, sweet cornbread

Corona’s very light in taste, mild, clean with no bitterness and has a rather thin tasting watery feel. It’s flavour is minimal, but on a hot day it quenches the thirst.
