Colombia V Uruguay World Cup 2014

Colombia V Uruguay Fifa World Cup 2014

After match synopsis in red!!

Top bets on today’s game: Colombia V Uruguay

day 3 a 001Uruguay will come out huffing and puffing with something to prove, and it might work for a while, but I reckon Colombia with the brilliant Rodriguez in the centre might just beat them in the end. Hopefully anyway.

Four South American teams today with dodgy defences equals a lot of goals, get on that for a double!

Chile/Colombia win double 12.3/1 Colombia to win 3-1 18/1 James Rodriguez to score a/t 12/5 And over 4 plus goals in both games 10.5/1 All odds with PP

If that last shot from Chile just went a few inches under the post rather than hitting it I would be quids up, unlucky. At least James Rodriguez got me some money back with a truly outstanding goal, still clinging in there, phew, ha.

Kirin Ichiban V Imperial Beer. 1-0 to Kirin Ichiban. The Japanese beer was pretty nice and quite drinkable with a lovely pale yellow colour appearance that had a very good sized creamy head that lasted. A good look. Imperial also looked the part. Crystal clear, pale golden straw colour, and, on pour, a small frothy white appeared. Both beers about equal on appearance. Both beers also about equal on smell, both having sweet aromas of toasted malt and a not overpowering smell, faint but nice. But it was the taste that separates the two similar beers. Both sweet, yes. Both smooth, refreshing and light, yes. But I felt that Kirin just edged it with its flavouring. Had more flavours that you could taste, of hay, wheat, and light floral hops, with what tasted like a subtle creamy aftertaste that was enjoyable. Imperial also had a creamy aftertaste of its own, but for some reason it left a dryer feeling in the mouth. Close, but Kirin wins this battle. 17 039

PreGame:

Colombia: Three games, nine goals. Colombia finished top of Group C in sizzling form as they trashed Japan 4-1 to move into the last 16 of the World Cup. Who is this Falcao guy they keep talking about?

As the crowd were rocking Colombia put on another masterclass in attacking football. With James Rodríguez pulling the strings, goals were flying in nearly every time they ventured near the Japanese penalty box.

colombiaJapan looked like they might get back into the last game with their half time equaliser. That was until the mercurial talent that is James Rodríguez came on for the second half. With Japan continually leaving huge holes at the back as they went for a winning goal, Colombia struck them on the counterattack. Rodríguez got hold of a long ball, weaved in and out at the edge of the box, fainted a shot that took at least four Japanese defenders out of action then squared a lovely pass for his teammate Martinez to coolly slot the ball past the goalie for Colombia to retake the lead. A brilliant goal set up wonderfully by Rodriguez.

Japan’s heart sank and Martinez got another goal, with Rodriguez himself getting on the score sheet late on with a cracking goal to make the final score a comprehensive 4-1 victory for Colombia.

Can they do the same against Uruguay sans Suarez tonight? The Uruguayan team is a very cynical team, that like to fall at the slightest push, and they will try and slow the tempo of the game right down, and disrupt the Colombians as much as possible. But if Colombia can get their neck in front they could get a few more, as the game might open up eventually.

Uruguay scored a dramatic late winner to knock Italy out of the World Cup, but no one will remember that. What they will remember is Luis Suarez and that  ‘biting’ incident. Without going over the whole controversy again, the fact is Uruguay are a much poorer team without Suarez. Edinson Cavani might start as a lone striker, or perhaps Diego Forlan will also start. Either way its a poor substitute for Suarez. Cavani has only one goal so far, a penalty, while Forlan looked miles off the pace against Costa Rica. Óscar_Tabárez_7493Can the rest of the Uruguay team get the biting incident out of their mind. They have to be professional about it, knuckle down and get on with it. Tabarez, who thinks he is part of some street fighting gang, needs to learn that one of his boys got caught and punished. the fool should know you cant beat the law. Simples, now move the f. on Will be an interesting watch to see how Uruguay do without Suarez, and what way their players will react on the pitch. Lucky for Colombia though, very lucky!

Colombia played magnificently to have reached the quarter-finals of a World Cup for the first time in their history. James Rodriguez, showing an amazing piece of skill and vision, volleyed a peach of a goal in the first half to put Colombia in the driving seat against a spirited Uruguay.  A superb team move for the second goal crowned off a brilliant night of football for the Los Cafeteros.  James Rodriguez is now the current top scorer of this years World Cup with five goals, and looks like he also might get the Golden Ball for best player of the tournament. That would be an amazing achievement for a player on a team that many didn’t give much thought to pre competition. His magnificent first will be talked for many a year to come, while his second, which was as equally great, showed that Colombia play as a team, all pulling in the right direction.

uruguayUruguay’s game plan, without their key player Suarez, was to stifle play and break on the counter attack, but once they let in a goal, they had to play more adventurous.  They did have their chances and played very well considering their circumstances. Both Maximiliano Pereira and Edinson Cavani forcing good saves from Colombia keeper David Ospina, who looks another top goalkeeper at this World Cup to look out for. Safe hands should be his nickname.

Uruguay going forward in search of an equaliser made them susceptible to more counterattacks from Colombia. Zuñiga and Cuadrado were particularly dangerous down the wings, and Rodriguez kept up the pressure in the middle of the park. Their second goal came all the way from defence, an Armero’s cross finding Cuadrado at the far post who showed great skill to head the ball back towards the goalmouth for Rodriguez to bang in his second of the match. I liked the fact that Rodriguez immediately congratulated Cuadrado for his part to play in this well worked goal. That and the fun celebrations by the team show that this is a collective effort from the team. No egos too large to affect Colombia’s passage to the last eighth.

day 13 n 14 018I grew up watching Valderama, Rincon and that crazy keeper Higuita play in Colombian teams of the past that had great skill but just never really did it on the World Stage. Even Pele famously predicted a World Cup victory for them back in 1994. So it’s fantastic to see finally we have a Colombian team that is going to be pretty hard to knock out of this years World Cup. All in Brazil’s court now to see have they got what it takes to dislodge the Colombians as everybodys new favourite South American team. Hosts against the most exciting team in the World Cup. Neymar versus Rodriguez. A place in the last four of the World Cup beckons. Cant wait!
