Brewed by Brasserie du Dzô
Style: Schwarz Bier
Vuisternens-dvt-Romont, Fribourg, Switzerland

Brasserie du Dzô, is a brand new brewery, situated in the rural canton of Fribourg in western Switzerland, not to be confused with the German city of Freiburg (im Breisgau) just across the border. Founded in 2016 by Laurent Michel, after he completed his studies into brewing, hoping to put into action what he had learnt.

Cramine Schwarz Bier“Brasserie du Dzô” is a contraction of the word “Dzojè”, which means Joseph in the Fribourg dialect, a nickname given to the local residents.

Their motto is “we only brew styles that we like to drink”, which sounds great! They produce an Irish Red, a Belgian, a Schwarz, a few hoppy numbers, a Bavarian and some IPA’s, all sold mostly within the local region.

Review: 33cl bottle of Cramine Schwarz Bier: 4.9% vol.

Cramine in the local Fribourg dialect “kramena” means bright cold.

Cramine Schwarz BierComing in a small lovely shaped bottle, with an interesting logo of the brewery, a lamb, in black and white with a fork like weapon! Apparently its based on the old family coat of arms. It is pretty cool though.

On pour we get a black coloured beer, with a small whitish head. looks ok. Head maintains well. Not a bad looking beer at all.

The aroma is one of coffee, dark toasted malts and a fresh stouty smell, overall its a pretty lovely smell on the nose. Very nice and very inviting.

Cramine Schwarz BierBit of a shock initially, a bit of a “eh, what!”. Very hoppy at the start, took a while to get used to that strong taste.

A dark chocolate flavoured beer, all hitting the senses quick. Dark roasted malts apparent.

But a bit too strong for my liking, felt a bit poorly after it too! It is a tough one to drink, very bitter, very hoppy, very strong.

Very strong in the taste, not for my liking at all.
