Heineken

Heineken is a renowned Dutch brewing company, proudly founded in 1864 by Gerard Adriaan Heineken in the vibrant city of Amsterdam. Its iconic flagship, Lager Beer, remains a crisp pale lager with a smooth 5% alcohol content, beloved worldwide for its refreshing balance.

In the Netherlands, Heineken’s active breweries are strategically located in Zoeterwoude, ’s-Hertogenbosch, and Wijlre. The historic original brewery in Amsterdam, which ceased production in 1988 after more than a century of operation, still stands today. It has been beautifully transformed it into the hugely popular Heineken Experience, an immersive museum that now attracts beer enthusiasts from all over the globe.

Globally, Heineken owns and operates over 200 breweries across more than 80 countries and employs approximately 90,000 people. By production volume, it consistently ranks as the third-largest brewer in the world, trailing only the giants Anheuser-Busch InBev and SABMiller.

Review: Can of Heineken pale lager, 5% ABV

Heineken, a good solid beer that’s always crisp and reliably refreshing. This easy-drinking lager is the ideal go-to fare for sporting events, backyard barbecues, or lively parties where you want something cold that never lets you down.

Pour it and you’re greeted by a very clear, bright pale golden colour that catches the light beautifully. It forms a nice average-sized frothy white head on pouring, one that settles gently but leaves steady, attractive lacing clinging to the glass all the way down.

The smell is a distinct, inviting yeast aroma backed by fresh grassy hops and just a touch of pleasant malt sweetness – a classic, clean lager scent that promises refreshment.

Up front, the taste delivers that quite distinctive yeast flavor with a tiny, subtle hint of hops; it’s crisp, smooth, and remarkably balanced, going down easy with no fuss. The finish is clean, dry, and genuinely refreshing, leaving you ready for the next sip without any heavy linger. At 5% ABV, it’s sessionable perfection in a green bottle.

Karlovacko Pivo Beer, a Croatian LagerMy first Croatian beer

The aroma was a good grain scent with some malt sweetness, nice.

A nice thick, foamy, white head appeared after the pour, that stuck around.  A bit of lacing noted.

The colour was a bright clear golden straw appearance.  Had a bitter taste, and I felt it was a strong beer. No doubt a few of these under my belt and I would be ready for a good party.

A good clean Pale Lager, with a nice decent aroma.

Corona, the laid back Mexican beer

Brewed by Grupo Modelo
Style: Pale Lager
México DF

A pale lager that has been brewed and bottled in Mexico by Grupo Modelo since 1926. Grupo Modelo is Mexico’s largest brewer and is currently exporting Corona to more than 150 countries worldwide. Corona is one of the top-selling beers worldwide.

Although widely consumed year round, the beer is generally viewed as a summertime beverage. It is a brand that has a laid back image and is strongly associated with fun in the sun. Corona’s smooth taste is perfect for a long hot summers evening.

Outside of Mexico, the beer is commonly served with a wedge of lime or lemon in the neck of the bottle to add flavor.

Review: Bottle of Corona Extra lager, 4.6%ABV

The appearance has a clear pale straw yellow body. After pouring a small white head appears that dissipates very quickly. Not much lacing.

It has a mild, clean, subtle lager aroma, that smells of light, sweet cornbread

Corona’s very light in taste, mild, clean with no bitterness and has a rather thin tasting watery feel. It’s flavour is minimal, but on a hot day it quenches the thirst.

Skol, A Brazilian Lager

Skol

Brewed by InBev Brasil

Style: Pale Lager

São Paulo (SP), Brazil

Brazil’s favourite beer, Skol, can be seen everywhere in the country; on the beaches, in the street bars, on billboards plastered around the cities, the popular beer is all around.

Funnily enough, though, the famous Brazilian beer Skol’s origins aren’t found in Brazil, or anywhere near it. Sol has traveled a long way. Skol’s roots are in the UK (Burton, Leeds and Birmingham). Its a pretty long story that I am not going to bore you with here, but the beer has gone through many mergers and company takeovers, and due to mass branding has ended up as a Brazilian beer, where it found immediate popularity and success firmly securing its place in Brazil as one of the country’s famous lagers.

The name skol derives from the Scandinavian word skål, meaning cheers

Review: Bottle of Skol lager  4.7% ABV

A crystal clear crisp pilsner.  No real bite or kick to it, but went down very easily, lovely to drink actually. Nice taste, not bitter.

A lovely looking beer, a light golden color with a small head with moderate lacing.

Key characteristic is that it had a very lovely aroma. Aromas of sweet corn, grains and hay.

One negative is that there is not much bang for your buck. Small bottles, don’t last too long in my house, especially since Skol is so easy to drink.

Overall a good beer, and nice for a hot day, drinking to relax.
